I side fired this mug in the soda kiln at @lillstreetceramics on one big piece of wadding. I used the Mishima technique to inlay underglaze which thinned out the porcelain enough that you can just see light pass through the wad mark

We are so excited to announce our next Instagram Live workshop with Levi Yastrow (@take_it_or_levi ) on Thursday, July 23rd! We missed our June workshop while accepting workshop proposals, so we are featuring two workshops for July!
Levi Yastrow is a Chicago based artist and educator who earned a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012. He primarily focuses on making soda and wood fired utilitarian ceramics. He is currently a Teaching Artist at Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago and the Ceramics Lab technician at the College of DuPage.
During his work shop Levi will demonstrate 2 decoration techniques that he uses for his soda fired works. He will show how he layers flashing slip and underglaze to develop different surfaces and wax resist to help to create and define those layers. Levi will also show how he uses both home-made and purchased underglaze transfers to create depth, color and pattern on the surfaces of his work.
